FMG Drinking Water Scoping Studies

Through FMG’s approach to managing drinking water quality a series of potential drinking water improvement projects had been identified.  WISE consulting was engaged to assess the technical feasibility and develop the scope of these projects for a subsequent design and delivery phase.
The improvement projects related to the RO treatment processes at railyards near Port Hedland, the RO plant and associated bore supply capacity at the village supporting the Christmas Creek mine, and a plan to decommission self-supply of drinking water at an FMG site in Newman by obtaining a drinking water connection from the Water Corporation’s town supply.
The outcomes included :

  • Recommended changes to the remineralisation systems at the RO plants,
  • Upgrade of bore pumps and construction of a new pipeline to increase the raw water supply capacity to allow full utilisation of the RO systems at Christmas Creek,
  • Application for a new Water Corporation service connection at Newman, construction of a new pipeline and connection point into the existing site drinking water system,
  • Budget cost estimates and definition of the scope for recommended works.
